Straight Across Berlin. Berlin is not only one of the most exciting cities in Europe – it is also a melting pot of nations, celebrated for its diversity. People from 189 countries call the capital home, and more than 18 percent of Berliners are foreign nationals. Many of them bring a piece of their homeland and their culture with them to Berlin. And one of the most important cultural assets, alongside language, is food. 50 kitchens. 50 stories. 50 times a wooden spoon in the hands of someone who brought a taste of home to Berlin. Over nine months, [Stephanie Drescher](https://basiliscus.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=175:author-stephanie-drescher-uk&catid=19:team&lang=en-GB&Itemid=674 "Stephanie Drescher") and [Uwe Schwarze](https://basiliscus.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=176:cameraman-camera-operator-berlin&catid=19:team&lang=en-GB&Itemid=672 "Cameraman Uwe Schwarze") built an entire TV series from the ground up for Deutsche Welle – editorial development, camera, editing, narration scripts, book texts, everything. We drove across half of Berlin, discovered restaurants no travel guide has ever heard of, and tasted dishes that don't even have a name in German yet. We produced, stored, reviewed, evaluated and edited over 250 hours of footage into 50 five-minute films. In doing so, we got to know Berlin's gastronomic diversity far better than we ever had before – meeting the city's finest cooks and restaurateurs, watching over their shoulders and peering into their pots. The result: 50 films about people who came to Berlin for very different reasons. 50 films that serve as a gastronomic guide to the city – and at the same time present 50 recipes to cook at home.
