Event film – Pro Biosimilars Organisation
When Politics, Medicine and Industry Share a Stage – We Make Sure the Picture Is Right.
An inaugural symposium is more than a conference. It is the moment a new idea takes shape in public for the first time. For the Working Group Pro Biosimilars, an initiative under the umbrella of Pro Generika e. V., that moment came on 29 September 2015 at the Radialsystem in Berlin.
Our brief: to capture that day on film so that the event film would still convince months later – as a communications tool, as evidence of political relevance, as a living document of an important moment in healthcare policy.
More Than a Camera in the Room: Editorial Preparation from Day One
Before our team set foot in the Radialsystem, we had immersed ourselves in the subject matter: What are biosimilars? Who are the key players? What arguments drive the debate? Writer and director Stephanie Drescher developed a clear dramaturgical concept: no explanatory voice-over, but exclusively first-hand statements from participants – embedded in atmospheric visuals of an exceptional venue.
The goal was to achieve something rarely pulled off: showing that even complex, technical subjects can carry energy and momentum on screen.
A High-Profile Panel – Carefully Framed
The discussion panel brought together voices covering every angle of the issue: health policy representatives from three major parties, senior physicians, health insurance executives and industry figures from TEVA, Hexal AG and Hospira. Cinematographer Uwe Schwarze faced the challenge of capturing discreet but visually strong footage throughout a live programme – from the opening address and panel discussion through to the animated conversations over lunch.
We also wove the event photographer Georg Lopata into the film as a narrative element – a small but effective dramaturgical device that gave the film an additional layer of depth.
Location as Storytelling: the Radialsystem Berlin
The former pumping station, built in 1905 and extensively restored, offered us far more than an attractive backdrop. Industrial architecture, a view over the water, raw brick aesthetics – we used this atmosphere deliberately to give the film a visual identity that goes well beyond standard conference coverage.
Full-Service Production From a Single Source
From editorial preparation through the shoot with our own equipment (Sony FS7, Nikon D800) to editing, colour grading and the integration of bilingual graphic elements (DE/EN), the entire production chain was in our hands. Post-production was completed at our AVID Symphony editing suite in Berlin.
The result: an event film that makes the intellectual depth of the symposium genuinely felt – and gives the Working Group Pro Biosimilars a professional face to the world.
