Documentary films are our passion. Because they allow us to do something that other formats cannot: to tell a story exactly as we see it.
Bill Nichols, one of the most important film theorists of our time, described the documentary as the ‘creative engagement with reality’. We carry this phrase with us – to every shoot, into every conversation, through every edit.
For documentary film is not a quick format. It takes time. Sometimes months. Sometimes years. Intensive research, a genuine interest in people – and a willingness to be surprised. With every project, we embark on a journey of discovery: into unfamiliar realities of life, unknown worlds, unexpected moments. Ideally, the camera becomes a silent observer – and it is precisely then that the images emerge which cannot be planned. Which can only be captured if you are there. Truly there.
In doing so, one question drives us time and again: how much reality remains when a camera enters the room? It is one of the most fascinating questions of the genre – and we ask it anew with every film.
