TV series: 50 Kitchens, one City – Jamaica

»50 Kitchens, One Home« – Basiliscus Film produced 50 magazine features over nine months on behalf of Deutsche Welle for the lifestyle magazine euromaxx.

Stephanie Drescher was responsible for editing, research and organisation, whilst Uwe Schwarze handled camera work and post-production. Together, we filmed in 50 Berlin kitchens, wrote all the voice-over scripts and penned the text for the accompanying publication. 50 people, 50 recipes, 50 stories about home, cooking and life in one of the world’s most diverse cities.

TV and web series with the Jamaican restaurant »RosaCaleta«

Island vibes in Berlin-Kreuzberg – that sounds like a contradiction and turns out to be one of the most beautiful episodes of our entire series. Caribbean cuisine is loud, colourful and generous: exactly what Berlin sometimes needs. As a film production company from Berlin, we captured 50 such encounters between world cuisine and the neighbourhood for Deutsche Welle euromaxx – and this one left us particularly inspired.

Jamaican, that is: Every occasion is celebrated, whether big or small. And celebrating means eating and drinking. Kirk Henry and Troy Lopez bring this principle from their home country Jamaica to Berlin and realize it in their restaurant RosaCaleta. “As a child I grew up in a house where the doors were always open, no matter what the occasion was, it was always a kind of party.

That's why there is always something to eat when I invite people. Because good food always creates good mood, and good mood always make a good talk”, says chef Troy Lopez during our shooting for the series 50 kitchens, one city for DW last summer. Troy and managing director Kirk live this principle, that one notices quickly when you see them in their restaurant and spend somme time with them.
