TV series: 50 Kitchens, one City – Spain

Produced for Deutsche Welle – with love, hunger and a camera crew.

»50 Kitchens, One Home« – Basiliscus Film produced 50 magazine features over nine months on behalf of Deutsche Welle for the lifestyle magazine euromaxx.

Stephanie Drescher was responsible for editing, research and organisation, whilst Uwe Schwarze handled camera work and post-production. Together, we filmed in 50 Berlin kitchens, wrote all the voice-over scripts and penned the text for the accompanying publication. 50 people, 50 recipes, 50 stories about home, cooking and life in one of the world’s most diverse cities.

Tapas, wine and the ability to make a great deal out of very little – Spanish cuisine is an attitude towards life. For our award-winning TV series »50 Kitchens, one City«, Basiliscus Film filmed that attitude in a Berlin kitchen and realised: homesickness tastes the same everywhere. Over 250 hours of footage were produced in this project and distilled into 50 films.

A passionate chef and a sommelier meet in Berlin and quickly realize that they share the same idea of a really good restaurant. They love to establish a place that stands out. So they open a gastrobar. Well known in their homeland Spain, in Berlin a unique selling point. They offer small, extraordinary dishes to share, plus the right beverage selection and a great deal of coziness. And everyone feels like being at a friends dining room. “To create something new in the kitchen, you have to understand the tradition,” says head chef Ager Uriguen.

So for 50 kitchens, one city he prepares Bacalao al pil pil, a traditional Basque dish, and Giovanni Gonzalez Miranda serves the right wine. “Eating, friends, laughing, drinking, that's just part of our culture. All this we can combine here in our restaurant”, adds the sommelier. Let's go to Neukölln, to friends, to Txokoa!
